LeaseJapan ETC Card Service
 
1. What is ETC?
ETC is the abbreviation of Electronic Toll Collection.  The ETC system consists of 3 integral parts – The ETC Card, the transmitter in the car (OBE, On-board equipment) and the toll gates.  The card is inserted into the transmitter and a charge is placed on the card when passing through the toll gate.  Most toll roads in Japan offer discounts when using ETC and obviously there is a lot of time saved not having to stop and pay in cash.

2. How do I install an ETC Transmitter in my car?
LeaseJapan can sell and assist in installing the ETC Transmitter in one of our closely associated Garages or Car Dealers depending on your location.  For further information on this and for a free quote, please contact LeaseJapan at InfoRequest@leasejapan.com or call Toll Free on 0800-600-9518.  Most ETC Transmitters (including installation) will cost between 24,000yen to 35,000yen, depending on the type of car and the type of transmitter.

3. How do I obtain the ETC Card to use in the ETC Transmitter?
In order to obtain an ETC Card through the usual channels, you must first obtain a Japanese Credit Card (linked to a Japanese bank account).  It will usually take about 3 to 4 weeks to obtain the ETC Card.  You must then remember to cancel the card 2 months prior to leaving Japan.  Most banks or credit card companies offer ETC Cards.

4. Can LeaseJapan help in obtaining this ETC Card?
For clients who lease a car through LeaseJapan, we can provide you with your very own “LeaseJapan ETC Card” without the need to apply for a credit card first and without the need for a Japanese Bank account.  We can also provide this card to you from the start of the lease contract (even if you have just arrived in Japan) and you can use it till the day before the car lease contract ends (even if this is just before you leave Japan).

5. How do I pay for the ETC once I start using it?
There is no need to put any credit on these cards prior to using it.  Once you have started using it, the invoices will be taken off your credit card.  For clients of LeaseJapan who have a “LeaseJapan ETC Card”, we will send you invoices each month (providing you have used the card that month) and you can pay these at any Convenience Store throughout Japan 24Hrs a day, 7 Days a week.For more information, please contact one of our Sales Managers in either Tokyo or Nagoya.
